John Stainback

John Stainback has been painting since 1979. He has a great respect for the New York School with a particular focus on abstract expressionists: Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollack and Mark Rothko.

John is experimenting with acrylic paint, India ink, and fluorescent spray paint, as well as traditional oils. By throwing white paint on several black background canvases, he has captured a strong sense of force moving from right to left breaking a red plane. He extends this concept by painting red fragments, which follow the projection of the white paint across the black canvas. A spin-off of this concept is the eruption of white paint from the bottom of the canvas to the top. The preferred format is 60 x 84 inch.

John is also a colorist. He is experimenting with contractor rollers, which allow him to layer several hues of the same color while the paint is still wet. This technique results in a one-of-a-kind color and depth. His preferred format for this technique is 36 x 60 inch.

When John is not painting he is the President of Stainback Public/Private Real Estate (SPPRE). SPPRE is a national public/private finance and development advisory firm based in Houston, Texas. SPPRE was founded in October 2001. Since that time SPPRE has served as the lead advisor on projects valued at $16.4 billion.

John received a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland. He went on to receive a Master of Architecture and a Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
